Rev. Leon M. Porter Sr. is one of three children born in the city of
Washington, D.C to the late Rev. Fred E.X. Porter and Dorothy Porter
Carr. Rev. Porter started his religious journey at the Tenth Street
Baptist Church in Washington D.C. where his father served as Assistant
Pastor.
Soon after the passing of his father in 1987, Rev. Porter moved
his membership to the Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church located in
Washington, D.C. under that Pastorate of the late Dr. D. Lee Owens. Dr.
Owens licensed Rev. Porter, Sr. to carry the gospel on January 7, 1990.
He preached from Isaiah 6:1-9 with his sermon subject “Go” and he is
“STILL GOING” 20 years later. Rev. Porter was ordained February 14, 1993
by the Late Rev. John H. Walker at the home church of the Porter
family, Hopewell Baptist Church of Upatio, Ga.
For the past 32 years, Rev. Leon Porter, Sr. has served in many
roles related to Christian Education: Sunday School teacher, Vacation
Bible School Director, Sunday School Superintendent & Assistant
Minister of Education. Rev. Porter has also served in other capacities
of the church including: deacon, trustee, choir director and preacher of
the gospel. Since his call to the ministry, Rev. Porter has served as
Minister of Evangelism, Assistant Minister of Education, Director of NJ
Ministerial Alliance of the Full Gospel Bapt. Fellowship (1996—2005) and
Assistant Pastor.
Rev. Leon Porter, Sr. has been married to the Former Brenda
Wright for over 22 years. Rev. and Mrs. Leon Porter, Sr. are the proud
parents of three sons Leon Jr., Brendan Xavier and Christopher Martin.
